Arrival time is from 3.00 p.m.on Friday

B -

Beds are: one double (4’ 6”), two single (3’) and a smaller single (2’6”) if required. Both quilts and Blankets are available and there are plenty of pillows, but you need to bring your own Bedlinen and towels
Bats roost in a nursery colony in the walls of the cottage from June to August; more information is available about ‘Living with Bats’ if you are thinking of booking for those months
Bank in Coniston Village is only open part time; there is also a Post Office

C -

Cot is available: let us know if you want to use it
Cleaning is done by the Caretaker between lets: the Tourist Board praises our standards
Cancellations: the deposit is not normally returnable; if you have already paid the balance we will return any money we receive if we manage to replace your booking

D -

Departure time is before 10.00 a.m. on Friday
Dogs are welcome if well behaved! There is no extra charge, but please let us know if you plan to bring a pet

Electric heating and cooking, using a ‘green’ tariff
‘Environmentally conscious’ is the way we try to work; we aim for comfort rather than luxury, and only replace things when we need to, rather than constantly ‘upgrading’

Food can be bought in Coniston Village: there is a dairy, the Coop has a backery, and Hutchinsons has a butchery. There are big supermarkets in Ulverston and Windermere, smaller ones in Ambleside
Fire; there is no Fireplace as the cottage was originally a farm building
Fridge with a Freezer compartment is provided

Garden has a bench for sitting out, listening to the beck and watching the birds

H -

Heating is available in plenty, with an electric stove in the lounge / dining room, night storage heaters in all rooms and extra fan heaters
High chair is available: let us know if you want to use it

Iron and ironing board are provided
Insulation in the roof is as thick as we could get it.

Jogging and Joy are recommended

Keys: you will be told where to find them; the Caretaker's telephone number is in the ‘Cottage Book’

Local information is provided in a box file

Night life is quiet but pleasant; pubs, restaurants, some concerts and theatre in summer

Overseas visitors can arrange foreign payment facilities and hire of bed linen
Owls can be heard at night

Pubs are in abundance; the "Ship Inn" is only a staggering 100 metres downhill
Parking is available for two cars - one in the lock up garage and one in the space outside

Rubbish can be recycled: instructions at the cottage

Short breaks may be arranged at quiet times of year
Splashing in the beck is much enjoyed by dogs and children
Steep bit of lane and steps up to the front door should be negotiated with care

Tray of Tea things for a cuppa should be waiting when you arrive

Walk from the cottage along the old railway line to Coniston Village; or up the lane to Old Man and Walna Scar; or down to the lake shore
Washing machine is not provided; the nearest lauderettes are Ambleside and Ulverston

Xenophobia is not in evidence; the sheep are friendly, if not worried by pets

Young people (and their elders) may enjoy Pony Trekking from Spoon Hall, the farm across the field
